what happens if my escort x50 is run on 14 volts? it showed the vehicle voltage at 14.2 or around there. does that affect the performance?

 You should be fine. Ive been running mine for 4 years now with no issues. And i believe that it runs on 12v.

Any reason why this wouldnt work?
I have tried this twice and neither time has it worked. 

I either do not have 12v to that post, or that bolt location isnt a sufficient ground.
I connected the radar and a volt meter, 0.00v.

I persnoally did my ground and power in the over head light / sunroof switch. Cant remeber which one exactly. I have had no issues.

All vehicles run between 11 and 14 V depending on what they are commanding the alternator load to be.  Ideally they would run at the minimum voltage required, but there are actually algorithms that bring voltage up to maintain battery life, etc
