a4 2,5tdi quattro front driveshafts

hey i've got this a4 where i need to replace the front driveshafts. and the inner part (mounted on the gearbox) is 6sided. but i've seen some driveshafts, where the inner part were cylindrical, which were for the same model as mine. My question ..... whats the difference ? hope you guys can help me best regards nicholas
