I've used the site for the coolant temp sensor replacement and was directed here again from passatworld when my EPC light came on out of nowhere. Symptoms and code matched. The write up was a big help on where to look for that dang sensor.

The bolt holding mine in ended up being the 5mm hex. Also instead of cutting all the zip ties I cut the connector off the end and pull it out by the sensor...
