Boost Leak Test.
« on: July 21, 2010, 08:30:40 AM »
So after the install of my K04 , Injectors , FMIC, MBIC I was going into " Limp" mode. So i found a few leaks. fixed that issue. Runs better but still not %100. I  hold at around 18 psi's but not all the time as well as i have boost surges sometimes , not always. Ran another boost leak test and i can t seem to get around the GFB BOV. I hear a leak from there. And after talking with them i understand that i would have a small leak from the vacuum nipple and/or the recirc outlet. Unfortunatly only have shareware for my Vag, But consistant code it 17535 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Mult): System too Rich . I know this maybe caused by a boost leak. Curious on who has done a boost leak test  with a BOV " I know Martini you have" and if heard air escaping from there. Thanks

Ive attached info on the GFB BOV. Guys over there were very helpfull on the BOV.

yo - sorry for not getting back to you.  My life is crazy right now.  Have you checked this?  I had issues with my gfb and a boost leak, etc.   You'd never figure it out if you didn't pull the valve - check this out

**my post from that 'other' forum**

This took me longer than usual to figure out...boost issues
So In the past 3 months I have had my car for less than 2 weeks - and I have only driven it about 4 times. It was in the shop for power steering pump and steering rack, then I was out of town, then i got into an accident and it was in the shop.... finally got the car back

anyway, after the steering rack was done, I drove the car and it started driving like shit. The turbo wouldnt spool til somewhere past 4 grand - and would only get up to 18psi. The car just felt like it had the worst turbo lag ever...

I did my typical boost check, and didnt see anything in the lines. So I took off early today and decided to have at it again. Turns out that an O ring in the GFB Stealth FX popped out of place and was preventing the BOV/DV from closing.

f'd up

fixed

I'm happy I found it... and the stage 3 is fun to drive again.

sorry that theres no real point to the post..

No worries. Thanks boss.

Also when i took off the PRV to block the TIP for another test i noticed 2 things. 1. I had more oil and a little grime in the valve than normal. At least a teaspoon. 2. I noticed that when i plugged one end and blew in the other it had a small leak on the underside. Bubbled out with oil. Looks like a small rectangal. I dont remeber it having a hole before. Is it a vent or deffective?
Also i did the boost leak test with my OEM diverter valve and notinced more air comming from the oil cap as well as the line to the prv that is not plugged. Bad check valve somewhere ?
Also the GFB should not leak during this test if seating properly, correct ?

Is it normal to hear what I assume is oil bubbling during the test?

Yes it is. Just make sure you block off the PRV and also loosen you oil cap. It's air getting into the crank case. All good. Just dont want to pressurize it.
