Engine Oil Level Light
« on: June 15, 2012, 12:02:56 AM »
alright here goes. i have an 03 a4 quattro 125k miles on it. the engine oil level light keeps coming on i've checked it every time it comes on but the level is in between the marks. of course after the engine has been on and up to temperature. anyway heres the thing every time the light comes on all i do is pull out the dipstick, open the oil cap and the light either goes away right away or i have to wait less than a minute and it turns off.  to me it seems like its an emissions problem but i dont get an engine light code. i've looked for info but can't seem to find any. all i find is change the oil level sensor. any ideas of what  else it could be?

Check the three wires connecting to the sensor, sometimes they get cut or chewed also check fuses... It is the yellow oil sensor indicator and not the red one right?

yeah it is the yellow oil sensor indicator. ill check the wires but i wouldnt explain why it would go off after i take out the dipstick and open the cap. like if i was releasing the engine block pressure.

Yeah that definitely does not explain that part...you may be in the market for a new sensor, ECS Tuning has a few options reasonably priced.

Have you recently had an oil change with a change of weight or brand?

i had already replace the sensor twice before from ECS. once because the sensor malfunction (that came with the car when i got it 4 years ago) and the second because of a defective sensor that they sent me. which they replaced for free even though it was three months later when it failed and the part had no warranty on it. anyway it's December and the problem is still there. every time it comes up I open the oil cap and pull out the dip stick some and the orange oil light goes away. im thinking i'm going to have to get a  whole emissions kit replacement for this. the car now has a 135k miles on it.
