Feedback Forum / Re: THE SPAM IS GETTING RIDICULOUS

Could someone stop augusthall? He's been posting all sorts of crap and people who are asking legitimate questions are getting lost in the viagra adds...

Lol, didn't know that. Thanks. And it will get louder? I don't mind that. It's a bit quiet right now.

Well, I finished installing the exhaust yesterday and I have to say, I LOVE the sound. Also a thing to note for those installing Magnaflow cat-backs... don't completely follow the Neuspeed exhaust install from this site. The magnaflow is a bit shorter and actually starts at the pipe after. So there is no need for the removal of the pipe after the cat. Installation is super easy (relatively) and if you don't make mistakes and have a buddy with you, it should be less than a two hour job. Just undo the clamps and the hangars. And lube the rubber hangar things and it should come off pretty easily. Just thought I'd share my happiness/success!

Questions About Writeups / Re: Boost Gauge
« on: November 07, 2010, 07:03:22 PM »
That's really weird. I have the same gauge and it works fine. I have APR stage 1 and I spike close to 20 and hold somewhere around 16 psi. You should definitely check with your tuner about the chip. I am pretty sure that all the software flashes (chips) raise your boost by a good amount.

Yeah, I kinda do want a BT eventually. But I live in CA, so all the CARB stuff gets in the way... It's also the car I get to college with, so I need it to be reliable. And finally, I'm in college and have HUGE amounts of money that come with being a college student [sarcasm]. I saved up over the summer and like half my earnings went to insurance, so I'm finding it hard to scrounge up much more than a $1000, let alone like $5 - $6 k.

See, the thing is, I've already done the stage 1. I did that just last year, or maybe even january. I don't actually remember now, but it was recently. So the stage 1+ would be 20 hp, and the exhaust would be 10 hp give or take. However, the exhaust sounds amazing, and I've just been aching for that sound. Either way, I can't buy anything just yet. Well, I could, but I'm gonna save up a bit more and I think I'll buy the exhaust. I'll probably do the stage 1+ next summer or next winter.

Yeah. I'm in CA, so I can't do a test pipe or an HFC. Also, I'm thinking about doing the magnaflow exhaust instead of the others (namely AWE, APR, and Milltek) because it sounds great, but it's pretty cheap. All the others run over a 1000 dollars and I don't have the money to fund something that pricey right now. The only reason I'm debating between injectors/stage 1+ and exhaust is the price. I think I might just go with the exhaust because our cars don't sound particularly mean with the stock exhaust. Thanks for the input!

Additional Questions - Non Writeup Specific / Re: SAFE MODE?????????? WTF
« on: October 19, 2010, 08:04:04 PM »
No real specific help to give you, but you can get these little radio key things. They come in fours I believe and there are little slots around the radio that thy fit into. You could see if you can pull it out and give it to them to fix. That way you can get rid of some of the labor cost.

Well, the subject pretty much says it all. I really really want the awesome sound from the cat-back, but I can't help but get the feeling that the stage 1+ is a better bang for your buck. I was going to get some used TT225 injectors and it's like 80 bucks in labor bringing the total to around 300-350. I found a magnaflow cat-back for $700 (new) which is a pretty good deal from what I've seen. I just need help deciding. My mind can't really get over the $700 aspect of the exhaust.... Any suggestions?

Car: 2004 A4 Quattro, 6spd, APR Stg. 1. I've already gotten my car lowered and a few other things, so the engine/exhaust was the next thing I wanted to do. Is there any order that I should do the stg 1+ and exhaust? Thanks in advance.

Questions About Writeups / Re: JHM Short Shift Install Problem
« on: October 19, 2010, 03:20:47 AM »
I had a similar problem, but I installed it myself. For me, the problem was not that it was rotated about the knob, but rather the whole shifting "H" pattern had moved over. The problem in my case was that when we were aligning it with the prong things, we didn't match the center perfectly. It hasn't really affected my shifting, but it's been 6 or 7 months now so I've gotten used to it.

As far as pushing it in to reverse instead of first, I'd change out the spring if I were you. I don't press down the stick that hard, so I went with the softest, but the stiffer springs are there exactly for your "problem". If you switch out the spring it should be fine.

Additional Questions - Non Writeup Specific / Exhaust for B6 (2004)
« on: June 28, 2010, 07:38:12 PM »
Hey guys. Haven't been on here in a while, but I finally might be getting some more money, and I have been dreaming about a new exhaust for quite some time now. So, the two exhausts that I want to look into are Borla and Magnaflow. I found Magnaflow for 2004, but Borla only seems to go to 2003? How do you guys get your borla exhausts? When I looked it up on the site, it says that they don't have a cat back for a 2004 A4. Should I just go with the magnaflow? Thanks.

Additional Questions - Non Writeup Specific / Body Kit
« on: March 27, 2010, 03:03:53 AM »
Hi guys. I was thinking about getting a body kit in a while (next 6 months or so, gotta save up!), and I can't seem to find good prices. I looked at the list of things about cosmetic modifications, and some of the prices just don't seem to match what is online. The A4mods list says that a Kerscher front bumper is around $450. I can't find it for less than $650. Is there some awesome online place where you guys all get your body kits from or something? I'm on a college budget, and I'm going to work over the summer, and that's how I'll be funding this kit. I'm just looking for a front bumper, and I'll see if I can somehow paint the lowers. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. O yeah, just for the info, I have an '04 B6 1.8T.

You can get many mechanics/auto repair places to do it. You can do it yourself too. I had my dad's mechanic do it, but you can rent a spring compressor and do it yourself. The diy is on this site I think, just for coilovers though. But if you just have the springs, it shouldn't be too bad to figure out how to put it back, but since I didn't do it myself I'm not one to talk. You could just give them a call and ask them if they do it. But definitely ask how much they charge. Before my dad's mechanic, some of the people charged 4x what he asked for.

I think after the chip, it gets pretty expensive. As far as I know, you don't get huge gains like that for that sort of money after the chip. Probably exhaust, FMIC, big turbo? I think some people said the sprint booster makes it the throttle more responsive or something. What chip do you have btw? If you have APR you can get Stage 1+. You have to buy big injectors though, TT225 I think. Then you have to get the new 1+ software flashed at some APR dealer. That will put you to 229 horsepower (that's what they say) and 271 lb-ft of torque on 91 octane.

Additional Questions - Non Writeup Specific / Re: ipod adapter?
« on: March 27, 2010, 01:18:36 AM »
I think Ice Link is the way to go if you can find it. I don't think they sell that anymore. The same people are now DICE or something. That adapter is pretty pricey though. You could always buy a headunit with built in iPod integration, but then we're talking $150-$200 at least. But whatever you do, don't go with the cheapo one from VW. My mom got it done to her car (now mine) and it's horrible, for me at least. I can only go to the next track, and not the previous one. If I try to go to the previous one, or to a track more than 5 tracks away, it jumps to a random track that it decides it wants to play. You also can't have shuffle on because I guess it doesn't support it. The VW one is just a pain. On the other hand, my dad's pioneer works very nicely in his B5 S4. But, that one was $500 because it came with navigation, bluetooth, ipod integration, and DVD playback (although that's completely useless).

My dad put in a double din pioneer in his B5 S4. Does your unit not come with the plastic molding (like the ebay page)? My dad's pioneer came with it and it covers up the gap that there would be when you install it. The stock radio unit has sort of built in molding. You might need the molding from the ebay page, but don't take my word for it. Maybe your unit is different. If you end up needing it, I think there's a DIY out there somewhere on how to make your own with a sheet of ABS plastic, or you could just buy it. Sorry if I wasn't really helpful.
